MDGA Top 10/Top 5 Milk Testing Awards
that our goats (& their relatives) have earned.
Almost all of my goats who end up on the top 10 came from goats I bought from other herds who are ready were on the top 10 for BF %. It really does go on familia lines for the most part, so buying from herds that milk test to show proof is always an excellent plan to do so. I've had a couple end up on it who's breeders did not milk test for the most part- but not frequently. I can feed the same thing to all of my goats , and the ones that come from lines that have been on the top 10 for BF will throw out excellent butterfat percents, and the ones that have not had relatives on it just can't meet the numbers even with the same feed program.
2025 MDGA Milk Testing Top 10:
Bunny made the top 10 for # of milk & #of BF. She has grandmothers and great grandmothers who is ended up on the top ten , but her mother passed before she was ever tested.
Glo-Bug, Moon, & Daisy are the 4th generation to make it onto the top 10, 3 generations here, with the initial goat brought in being out of goats that also were on the Top 10 at their breeders farms.
Lassi is second generation on the Top 10, I do think if I kept her longer she could have been on butterfat pounds and possibly milk pounds lists. Her mom was on all three, but Lassi was sold in milk to a homestead. Lassi produced a lot of milk.
Dancer on her dam's side is 1st generation, but her dam had a number of relatives , including half and three quarter sisters who were on the list at her original breeders. Dancers sire, is Glo-Bug half brother, so on the sire side of the family is likely where her butter fat content came from.
Celestial, is 1st generation on top 10 in direct line, but, her dam' dam was 2nd generation, her maternal sister is 3rd generation on the list, and she has the same sire as Dancer. His maternal sister is Glo-Bug who is 4th generation on the top 10.
I do wish more of them had ended up on the butterfat pounds as I usually have a number of them on that as well. But looking at days in milk , it's pretty obvious I wasn't going to beat people doing as good and milking them longer.
